A Stumptastic Birthday Party!

When my friend Jill (who I have known since we were wee teens) asked me if I would consider coming to do a 'Cooking Party' for Sofia's birthday party (her daughter and past Stump Kitchen guest), of course I said YES immediately! In fact, Sofia and I had already started talking about the idea of having Stump Kitchen at her party during some off-camera downtime during her CBC shoot (See the blog post about that here!) Within a few minutes we had it all planned out!

Did I just spill a whole bag of cornstarch on the ground? Yep! The kids barely batted an eye :)

At the birthday party we made veggie sushi, edible play dough and mini donuts (all Sofia's ideas of course)! What a blast. The kids were wonderful about trying new things - and even though some of them didn't like the feeling f the sushi rice (SO STICKY!) they sure loved rolling the sushi into logs with the bamboo sushi mats! Sofia loves sushi and she and I got to do a demo for the group! Pretty good sushi log, eh?

We loved showing off the different colours inside our sushi rolls - they were filled with avocado, carrots, red pepper, and cucumber!

After a little break to play and wipe the table, we got right back into cooking & creating with the Edible Playdough! This is a fabulous recipe that I learned about from the awesome blog: Fun at Home with Kids.

The kids were thrilled that we could play with our play dough AND taste it! We ended up using some food colouring to make different colours, and cookie cutters to make different shapes!

And last but not least we made mini donuts!!! We all worked together to pipe the batter into the donuts pan, then when they cooled, we dipped them in chocolate icing and sprinkles! (And yes, even the donuts were all vegan and gluten free!)

For the final event, we sang Happy Birthday to Sofia, and she got to blow out a candle that was on the mini donut she decorated! I felt extremely honoured to be a part of this very fun and special day :) Happy Birthday Sofia!
